This is the BLAST website for "nucleotide blasts". In the first red box is the search box (just like Google!). This is where you will paste in your DNA sequence you are searching. Once your sequence is pasted, you will click BLAST at the bottom of the page. Do NOT change any of the other parameters listed.
The top of your search results page shows this information. The red box indicates your "query length", which is the number of nucleotides you entered into the search box.
Below the initial information is a diagram showing all the DNA sequences that matched the one you copied and pasted into the search tool. In the picture above, boxed in red, is the number of "Blast Hits" or the number of sequences that match; for this search or query there are 100 matches.
Indicated with the blue bracket are the sequences that match your sequence. If the lines are red and extend the entire length of the diagram, then the sequences match very closely to your search sequence. The shorter the length of the lines the less the sequence matches your search sequence. Below the line diagram is the list of the matching sequences. This space on the page is titled "Sequences producing significant alignments", meaning these sequences show a significant of similarities to the sequence that you used to search. The list goes from most similar to least similar. You can see this in the "query cover" column to the right. Query cover means how similar the two sequences are in a percentage. This search gives you the enzyme tyrosinase from Homo sapiens or humans.
